Barcelona will be the scene of the deployment of a fully 5G network, enabled to carry out the use cases contemplated in the project and which will remain in operation once the project is completed, in order to show the main advantages of this technology in different areas.
Partners: 5G Catalunya, 5G Barcelona, MWCapital
About 5G Catalunya
The 5G Catalunya project is developed by a consortium of 8 companies led by Cellnex Telecom and the MASMOVIL Group, with the participation of the Catalan provider Parlem Telecom, the specialised in augmented reality for industry company, Aumenta Solutions, the engineering company Atos, the consultancy Nae, the technology company Lenovo and the start-up Nearby Computing –a Barcelona Supercomputing Center spin-off–.
5G Catalunya has been one of the successful bidders in the second call for 5G pilot development grants launched at the end of 2019 by Red.es, an entity of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, as part of the 5G National Plan. Sector: Smart Cities
Case Studies: The project consists of seven case studies aimed at developing solutions in the areas of urban mobility, remote education, the industrial sector, remote purchasing, audiovisual transmission, security and emergency management in the urban environment, and the construction of a neutral multi-operator network to provide connectivity in areas with high seasonal occupation such as the beaches of the Barcelona coastline.
Description of tecnology:
- Low latency, reliability and robustness through 5G cameras connected to edge systems with artificial intelligence accelerators.
- High bandwidth for transmission of high quality images and holograms or high definition video using 5G uplinks.
- Massive communications between objects through mimetized equipment in urban furniture.
In addition, special attention will be paid to mitigate risks associated with network cybersecurity, as several use cases corresponding to sectors classified as critical will be considered.
